The borough environmental commission sponsors annual sustainability-focused learning opportunities with the High Bridge School District.  Earth Day assemblies are presented at both schools which are paid for through our Clean Communities Grant.

We organize a “day of caring” where the school environmental club and our borough environmental committee work side by side to beautify our Commons Park.  We weed, pick up litter, and plant flowers.  The environmental committee and the school environmental club also participate an annual Raritan River Monitoring project run by the Raritan Headwaters organization.  Students conduct water tests, classify macro-invertebrates, and record data.

When they return to school, the students share what they learned about the quality of our local river with their classmates. It is our hope that these authentic learning opportunities enable our students to apply what they are learning in school to real world 21st century issues that will help move us forward to a sustainable future.
