2018 Safe Routes To School
Description:
- Construct new curb and sidewalk along the west side of Hart Street. Roadway travel width will be reduced to a one-lane 16’ wide road and converted to a one-way road in the NB direction (from W. Main Street to Union Ave).
- Reconstruct existing curb and sidewalk along Union and Central Avenue to meet ADA standards.
- ADA Accessible curb ramps to be provided at the intersections of Hart Street with W. Main Street, Hart Street with Union Avenue, and existing curb ramps will be reconstructed at the intersection of Central Avenue with Bridge Street, as well as high visibility cross-walk striping.
- We will propose two Solar Powered RRFB’s (Rapid rectangular flashing beacon’s) at the crossing with Central Avenue and Bridge Street.
Status:
- Approved CED received/PE Phase completed Sept 2023
- Permit Submitted 1/7/2025, Anticipated to be received 4/8/2025 (they requested a 30-day extension)
- FD Phase anticipated to be complete June 2025 – pending redesign and further coordination with Colliers based on their pavement reconstruction project (which should be constructed summer 2025)
- Once submitted to NJDOT this will require ROW clearance review, earliest this could be advertised for construction would be Fall 2025 pending NJDOT approval.

2022 Safe Routes To School
Description:
- Construct new curb and sidewalk along the east side of Central Avenue, which will connect to ADA curb ramps constructed under the 2018 SRTS Project at the intersection with Bridge Street.
- Construct Retaining wall along east side of Central Avenue to stay within Borough ROW.
- Reconstruct pavement along existing trail connecting Central Avenue to West Main Street to be 6’ wide and meet ADA compliance.
- Reconstruct existing curb and sidewalk along West Main Street to meet ADA standards between the trail crossing and Hillcrest Lane.
- ADA Accessible curb ramps to be provided at the intersection of W. Main Street and the Central Avenue Trail crossing, along with High Visibility Crosswalk striping and Solar Powered RRFB’s (Rapid rectangular flashing beacon’s).
Status:
- CED Submitted to NJDOT 1/2/2025
- Draft PE Report submitted to NJDOT 3/6/25
- Once CED Is received from NJDOT BEPR, PE Phase can be considered complete
- FD anticipated for 2025/2026 (pending NJDOT timing/review of CED, and authorizing FD)

2023 Transportation Alternatives Program
Description:
- Construct new curb and sidewalk along the west side of W. Main Street, which will connect to ADA curb ramps constructed under the 2022 SRTS Project at the intersection with the Central Avenue Trail Crossing.
- Reconstruct curb and sidewalk along north/west side of Bridge Street, meeting the ADA curb ramps constructed under the 2018 SRTS Project at the intersection with Central Avenue, and continuing under the NJ Transit RR Bridge to connect to previously completed sidewalk near Main Street.
- ADA Accessible curb ramps to be provided at the intersection of W. Main Street and Bridge Street, along with High Visibility Crosswalk striping and Solar Powered RRFB’s (Rapid rectangular flashing beacon’s).
- Provide Streetscaping features such as lighting, trash receptacles and benches within the vicinity of the NJTransit Commuter Parking Lot.
Status:
- PE Phase initiated 4/1/25
- CED/PE Report to be submitted Summer/Fall 2025 (pending timing for Wetland Delineation and Survey)
- FD anticipated for 2026 (pending NJDOT timing/review of CED, and authorizing FD)
